Village Hearth is a Canadian media archive built around one recurring observation: the day-to-day mechanics of rural civic life — council minutes, community hall maintenance schedules, volunteer fire department calls for help — go largely undocumented. This site is an attempt to fill part of that gap.
The subject matter is deliberately narrow. This archive covers community life in small Canadian towns, roughly defined as municipalities with fewer than 10,000 residents. That includes townships in Ontario's Ottawa Valley, agricultural towns on the prairies, fishing villages on the Atlantic coast, and the many service centres that anchor rural regions across British Columbia and Quebec.
